Ingredients

  • ½ cup shortening

  • ½ cup sugar

  • ½ cup molasses

  • 1½ cups flour

  • ½ cup water

  • ¾ tsp salt

  • ¾ tsp baking soda

  • 1 tsp ginger

  • 1 tsp cinnamon

Directions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F.

  • In a mixing bowl, cream shortening and sugar; add egg and molasses and mix until well blended.

  • In a separate bowl, sift together dry ingredients.

  • Bring water to boil; slowly add dry ingredients.

  • Once dry ingredients are incorporated, combine with molasses mixture.
